NEW BEDFORD – Peter Tedeschi, former President and CEO of Tedeschi Food Shops and candidate to represent the 9th Congressional District of Massachusetts, continued his “Focused on Our Future” rolling rally today with a stop in New Bedford, where he discussed his support for federal legislation beneficial to New Bedford’s fishing industry.
“I am here because New Bedford is the most valuable commercial fishing port in the United States,” said Tedeschi. “That is something to be extremely proud of, and that’s why I can’t understand how we have a congressman who is so unsupportive and absent in his role representing you.”
Tedeschi expressed support for the Magnusen-Stevens reauthorization, as well as amending or repealing the monument designation of the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument to reopen fertile fishing waters.
“Going forward,” said Tedeschi, “I want the government to make investments in our fishing industry to chart a course into the future that doesn’t pit conservation against business.”
This was the third of five stops Tedeschi will be making throughout the 9h District today.
