Congressional candidate Peter Tedeschi visits New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD — The original wood columns extending upward well beyond 12 feet grabbed Peter Tedeschi’s attention. The enamored expression on his face remained as he looked at the wood floors inside Groundwork! at 1213 Purchase St.

His reaction reached a fever pitch Tuesday when he entered a meeting room in the building with the motto, “Work Together, Grow Together” painted on the wall.

“Congress could learn a lot from that,” Tedeschi said. “This is how it’s supposed to work.”

He echoed those sentiments throughout his first official stop on his People First Tour as he plans to run against Bill Keating for U.S. Representative of Massachusetts 9th district.

“The partisan politics taking place, we have folks who are unwilling to work together for the betterment of the people,” Tedeschi said. “They’re doing the bidding of their parties and not the work of their people. That’s just wrong. I want to try to change that.”

Tedeschi toured Union Street with the Economic Development Council, learned about beer at Moby Dick Brewery, offered to volunteer at Groundwork! and met with those on the waterfront.

The Republican didn’t speak about policy, his opponent and rarely his background, instead he listened.
